22/7 one-day trip to Kutna Hora

Today we had a day trip to a small town called Kutna Hora. We gathered at 9:30a.m. and then we got on the bus. After two hours, we visited a church first. If you just saw the outlook of this church, you may feel that it was just a small church, not very special. But when you went inside, you will be shocked, because the church uses lots of human skeleton for decoration. The skeleton was real, they were dead because of the Black Death, and this make me feel frightened. Taking photos inside the church was required to paid, but there were not staff to enforce this rule. Is all-European rules made basing on an assumption that everyone would have self-discipline?

Then, we need to get on the bus again and went towards Kutna Hora. The first place we visiting was the St. Vtius church. This church is larger than the one we had seen before.

Then, we went inside the city center and visit the sliver coin factories. Because in the Romaic time, this town was an important sliver supplier, there were sliver mines here. However, we could not go into the factories, we could only walk around it outer part. We could only imagined how the people work in the past.

After seeing the factories, we finally could have our lunch. It was about three o’clock, so we were very hungry. We have pork for our lunch, but the sauce of it was quite strange. It was strawberry sauce with cream and the taste was not very good. My friend had told me that the Czech people very like sweet taste, they even use sweet sauce to cook Spaghetti. I think this was the different eating culture of each place.

After the meal, we visited the sliver mines. Before we got into the mine, we should wear protection clothes. First we visit a cave that had toxic water, which was important for sliver mining. Then we kept going inside and the road became narrow and short, it was very difficult for me to pass through. In the cave, I could experience the hardship of the miner in the past, their working place were dark and dirty. Also, they were putting their life in stake, because the cave may fall and they would die.

Then, we went into some shops to take a look, but it does not last long, because we need to gather at the church and took the bus to other place. Our destination was a medieval town, and we would have a typical medieval meal. When we got into the restaurant, we the waiters were dress in medieval style and they shouted at us, according our tour guide, they were saying Slovakia impolite language. The restaurant inside was very dark, we seems went into a jail, and there were some medieval punishment tools in it. The atmosphere is gloomy. During the dinner, there were acrobatics show and also the traditional music and dance performance. The dance also invited us to dance with them, Benson and I was being invited, but both of us don’t know how to dance, so we just laughing and clapped our hands. All these performance were good. The performance reached a climax in the ‘burning the witch’. One female classmate was invited to be the witch, then she was closed in a cage and then the performance acted as bishop to judge her. Then, the ‘bishop’ forces her to plead guilty and use the fire to ‘burn’ her. Actually, they only use the fire to threaten her, but the girl was very afraid because she thought the people really burn her. We had chicken in our dinner, but I think it is too dry and insipid. After this happy meal, we took the bus back to the dorm.
